Job description

Description Your role at GEI. GEI is seeking respected professionals who aspire to have a positive impact on GEI’s growing design team and are interested in working collaboratively with a talented team of design, management, and technical leaders. GEI will provide a unique opportunity to collaborate across multiple practices to successfully deliver geotechnical, environmental, and hydrogeological design/engineering solutions for our clients in the Hamilton/Niagara/London Market.

The Canadian operation of GEI has experienced significant growth in Ontario and is looking for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our existing technical team. The role initially involves remote work on projects across Ontario, with opportunities to grow GEI’s presence and geotechnical service offerings in the Hamilton/Niagara/London market.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties
  1. Supervise, manage and mentor junior staff;
  2. Assist in recruiting and training additional staff;
  3. Act as project manager and design lead, responsible for developing plans, sections, details and calculations;
  4. Support business development through client contact and outreach;
  5. Assist with feasibility studies and technical analysis for construction methods and foundation options;
  6. Manage geotechnical engineering tasks including design and remediation of dams and levees, instrumentation, investigations, and design for water infrastructure and waterfront projects;
  7. Prepare technical scopes of work, project budgets, RFPs, and technical reports;
  8. Lead proposal teams and presentations;
  9. Participate in multi-disciplinary project teams;
  10. Maintain visibility through professional organization participation and industry event presentations;
  11. Handle administrative tasks such as documentation, office administration, expense reports, and invoicing;
  12. This position involves fieldwork and some overnight travel.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Geotechnical/Civil Engineering or related field;
  • 15 to 20+ years of geotechnical engineering experience;
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.);
  • Experience leading geotechnical teams;
  • Experience managing diverse multi-disciplinary projects;
  • Knowledge of industry standards and practices;
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency with technical software, MS Office, and MS Project;
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle;
  • Physical and environmental requirements available upon request.
