Job summary

Kiewit Power Constructors District is seeking a Civil Estimator to lead civil quantity takeoffs, pricing, subcontractor outreach, and risk assessment for large power projects. You will collaborate with engineering, procurement, and operations to develop competitive estimates in Lenexa, KS.

Responsibilities include reviewing RFPs, updating takeoffs in InEight, and coordinating with suppliers. A civil engineering degree and 1–3 years of experience are preferred, with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate civil engineering or related degree, or equivalent construction experience.
• 1–3 years of civil construction experience.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings and specs.
• Proficient with Excel and common office software.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication.
• Willingness to travel for site visits.
• Attention to detail and ownership under bid deadlines.

• Prepare review documents and defend estimate development in management reviews.
• Review historical production rates, lessons learned, and cost data to improve estimate accuracy.
• Complete an RFP and specification review for an assigned project, assessing risk areas and incorporating solutions into the estimate basis.
• Complete material and quantity takeoffs according to bid documents.
• Use Trimble and other software to prepare earthwork volumes and perform takeoffs.
• Enter quantities and costs into InEight Estimate and maintain throughout the estimate.
• Work with suppliers and subcontractors to get quotes and buyout costs incorporated into the civil estimate.

Position Overview

The Civil Estimator will support the development of competitive, accurate bids for large-scale power projects. This role will lead civil quantity takeoffs, pricing, subcontractor and supplier outreach, and risk identification while partnering with engineering, procurement, and operations teams.

District Overview

Kiewit Power Constructors offers integrated engineering, procurement, construction and startup service needs, specializing in gas and coal-fired power generation, coal retrofit and renewable energy. From concept to commercialization, our full suite of EPC and startup services set industry standards for quality design and superior functionality in delivering power projects throughout North America.

This position is based in our office in Lenexa, KS

Qualifications

• Undergraduate civil engineering, construction management or related degree, or equivalent experience in a construction-related position
• 1-3 years of related professional experience in the construction field, civil preferred
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
• Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Excel
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Strong written and verbal communications skills
• Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies
• Demonstrated ownership, dependability, and commitment to producing accurate work under bid deadlines
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
• Ability to travel as required for site visits
