Stantec is seeking a Civil or Environmental Engineering Intern to join our Water-US Northeast team. You’ll work in a team environment on infrastructure projects such as water and wastewater treatment, pipes, and flood relief.

Ideal for motivated students pursuing civil or environmental engineering degrees. This Summer 2027 internship offers exposure to real projects in South Burlington, VT; Providence, RI; Hartford, CT; or Auburn, NH with potential conversion to longer-term employment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing or completed bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering.
• Exposure to civil/environmental design coursework (water/wastewater, construction management).
• Strong MS Office and basic CAD/BIM familiarity (AutoCAD Civil 3D; REVIT a plus).
• Good communication and ability to multitask; willing to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist Engineers and Designers in calculations, reports, drawings and specs for bidding and construction.
• Prepare/edit drawings in CAD/BIM software.
• Support field investigations and on-site construction activities.
• Contribute to technical writing and document control tasks.

Your Opportunity

As a Civil or Environmental Engineering Intern, you will work in a team environment and have exposure to infrastructure projects which may include water/wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, conveyance pipelines, urban drainage and hydraulic models. Candidates should be highly motivated and dependable students who are taking or have taken civil engineering design, process engineering or construction management type courses. This is a terrific opportunity for a college student to support several exciting local projects. This internship position is for Summer 2027 and will be at or near full-time in one of our offices in South Burlington, VT; Providence, RI; Hartford, CT; or Auburn, NH, with the opportunity to convert to longer-term employment.

Your Key Responsibilities

Assisting Engineers and Designers in preparation of calculations, reports, drawings and specifications, as well as other documents for bidding and construction purposes. Common project types are combined sewer overflow mitigation, urban flood relief, water main replacement, large pipelines, infrastructure rehabilitation, treatment plant upgrades, and area-wide stormwater compliance. Project tasks include:

• Word processing and preparing calculations.
• Preparing and editing drawings within CAD/BIM software platforms.
• Engineering services during construction of water infrastructure.
• Supporting field investigation in a team setting.
• Completing other engineering tasks and administrative duties, as required.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Must be proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and cloud variants.
• Have a general understanding of basic AutoCAD Civil 3D. REVIT experience is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with a desire to network.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, take direction and meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of state and federal regulations, policies, and programs are a plus.
• Possess a valid driver’s license with good driving record.

Education and Experience

• Applicants should be in progress toward earning a bachelor’s degree (minimum) in civil or environmental engineering. Specific coursework or exposure to one or more of the following: - Fluid hydraulics (open channel flow, pressure pipe, pumping)
• Treatment processes (biological, chemical, mechanical)
• Construction management (document control, contractor coordination)
• Technical writing

Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for large portions of the day. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather (safety training will be provided).

Pay Range:

• $23.47 - $34.50 Hourly

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
