Job summary

SEH, Short-Elliott-Hendrickson, Incorporated in Omaha, NE, seeks an entry to mid-level civil engineering designer. You will assist engineers with planning, design tasks, and field oversight while preparing drawings and cost estimates for transportation and municipal projects.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineers with planning and design tasks and field oversight.
• Prepare drawings, schematics, and exhibits for reports and plans.
• Calculate quantities and cost estimates for construction projects.
• Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with plans.
• Document daily field activities, including sampling and measurements.
• Support preconstruction meetings, progress updates, and reporting.
• Maintain accurate project documentation and timely updates.

This Opportunity:

• Assist engineers with planning and design tasks, as well as field-based project oversight
• Calculate dimensions and prepare detailed dimensional design layouts for projects
• Interpret engineering designs and draft project information using software programs
• Prepare drawings, schematics, and exhibits for project reports and plans
• Calculate quantities and cost estimates for construction projects
• Monitor construction activities on transportation, civil, and municipal infrastructure projects to support compliance with approved plans and specifications
• Document daily field and inspection activities, including material sampling, testing, and quantity measurements
• Assist with preconstruction meetings, progress meetings, and project updates
• Maintain accurate, timely project documentation and reporting
• Mix of in office design work along with outside construction inspection as needed

Essential Qualifications:

• Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with project teams, clients, and contractors
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to maintain clear and accurate project documentation
• Willingness to travel as needed for project meetings, client visits, and field observations
• Experience using AutoCAD and Bluebeam through coursework, internships, or previous employment
• Interest in land development, municipal, and civil infrastructure projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience in civil design, construction inspection, or construction-related field work
• Experience supporting land development, municipal, transportation, civil infrastructure, or public works projects
• Familiarity with construction documentation, quantity calculations, field observations, and project reporting
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• Advanced experience with AutoCAD

Eligible Locations:

• Omaha, NE

Base compensation is expected to be in the range of $25 and $30 per hour based on skill set and experience.
