Job summary

The Minnesota Department of Transportation seeks Civil Engineering Student Workers for Summer 2027. Most positions require in-person fieldwork with some hybrid options; roles support engineers across construction, design, project management, and bridge/structures projects.

Applicants must be college students pursuing undergrad or graduate degrees in civil-related fields and carry at least two courses per semester. Priority will be given to juniors and students with GPA 3.0 or higher.

CIVIL ENGINEERING STUDENT WORKERS – SUMMER 2027

Salary Range: $18.15 - $21.26 per hour for SW Paraprofessional or $20.20 - $24.02 for SW Paraprofessional Sr.

For college students majoring in civil engineering, construction engineering, structural engineering, environmental engineering, geoengineering, land surveying, or a related field

MnDOT's Civil Engineering Student Worker Program seeks students majoring in land surveying, civil engineering, or a closely related field. Assist and support MnDOT engineers and offices with hands‑on experience to complement your education in areas like:

• Construction
• Design
• Project Management
• Bridge/Structures
• Materials and Fabrication
• Water Resources
• Traffic

Most positions require in‑person fieldwork. Some positions may offer a hybrid schedule option that includes 50% or more days reporting in‑person and the remaining days working from home. Positions are located across the Twin Cities metro area and Greater Minnesota.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• College student currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in civil, construction, environmental, geo-, or structural engineering, or land surveying
• Must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter
