Job summary

OpenTrain AI is seeking a Civil Engineering QA Lead to review AI-generated civil engineering content and trainer QA work. You will assess accuracy, reasoning, calculation correctness, unit consistency, safety, clarity, formatting, and adherence to project rubrics.

The role includes giving precise written feedback, supporting onboarding, maintaining project documentation, and identifying recurring quality issues across remote technical workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
• Strong English communication skills for technical feedback and team coordination.
• 3+ years of civil engineering, structural, geotechnical, transportation, construction, or technical review experience.
• Strong understanding of statics, structural analysis, soil mechanics, foundations, hydraulics, transportation systems, and construction materials.
• Ability to identify calculation, reasoning, unit, assumption, load, and safety issues.
• Ability to evaluate technical writing against rubrics.
• Experience with AI training, rubric-based LLM evaluation, or remote QA workflows is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review civil engineering explanations, calculations, diagrams, and workflows for correctness and clarity.
• Check for missing units, flawed assumptions, unsafe recommendations, standards issues, and instruction-following errors.
• Give written feedback to trainers and QAs and help align them with project guidelines.
• Maintain style guides, FAQs, trackers, examples, honeypots, calibration tasks, and onboarding materials.
• Support onboarding and training calls and help improve quality processes over time.
• Communicate updates clearly in remote team tools and keep quality expectations consistent.

The work

As a Civil Engineering QA Lead, you will review AI-generated civil engineering content and trainer quality-assurance work. You will check technical accuracy, calculations, units, safety, clarity, formatting, and compliance with detailed project rubrics.

What it pays and takes

This is a part-time, hourly contractor role for civil engineering quality leadership in AI training projects. The listing is marked entry level, but the role requires substantial civil engineering experience and technical review ability.

• Pay: Up to $105 per hour.
• Time: 20+ hours per week.
• Work location: Remote, limited to candidates in the United States.
• Language: Strong English communication skills are required.
• Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field.
• Experience: At least 3 years in civil engineering, structural, geotechnical, transportation, construction, or technical review work.
• Knowledge: Statics, structural analysis, soil mechanics, foundations, hydraulics, transportation systems, and construction materials.
• Quality skills: Ability to assess technical work against detailed rubrics and find calculation, reasoning, and safety issues.
• Preferred: Experience with AI training, rubric-based large language model evaluation, or remote quality-assurance workflows.
• Helpful tools: AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, ETABS, SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, SAFE, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, ArcGIS or QGIS, Bluebeam, Excel, MATLAB, or Python.
• Helpful leadership background: Leading remote teams of trainers, annotators, reviewers, engineers, technical writers, or quality reviewers.
