Job summary

The University of Akron is seeking a full-time, non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Practice in Civil Engineering with an expected start in August 2026. The successful candidate will teach multiple undergraduate and graduate courses, including laboratory sections, and contribute to curriculum development and student mentoring.

Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a PhD in civil engineering or a closely related field; PE licensure is highly desirable and

Qualifications

• PhD in civil engineering or closely related discipline.
• Evidence of effective teaching and/or significant professional practice experience in civil engineering is preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure, or the ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe, is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in civil engineering, including associated laboratory sections.
• Participate in curriculum development, student mentoring, and service activities in support of departmental, college, and university initiatives.
