Job summary

Stantec invites students to join its Columbus, OH office as a Summer 2027 Intern in our Water group. You will work in a team environment and gain exposure to water resources projects including flood protection, stormwater, and treatment.

This is a great chance to support local and national initiatives while learning from experienced engineers. The role emphasizes GIS data handling, drafting in AutoCAD Civil 3D, and assisting Project Managers with design tasks.

Qualifications

• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcMap/GIS, PCSWMM, HydroCAD, HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS is desirable.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Must have good organizational skills, be reliable, detail oriented and capable of working independently.

Responsibilities

• Data processing and management using GIS to support hydrologic and hydraulic modeling.
• Preparing spreadsheets, graphs, and figures for design reports.
• Preparing design and construction plans, calculations, specifications, quantity take-offs and construction estimates.
• Assisting with field work for data collection, site inspections and observations.
• Building surface models and drafting in AutoCAD Civil3D.
• Supporting Project Managers with various tasks to advance and track project progress.
• Internship is with the local Water group, with potential to assist in other disciplines in the office.

Your Opportunity

As an Intern for Summer 2027 based in our Columbus office, you will work in a team environment and have exposure to water resources related projects. Our projects involve flood protection and risk reduction, stormwater management, water/wastewater treatment and conveyance, sewer tunneling, stream restoration, green infrastructure, and other aspects of civil engineering. Candidates should be highly motivated and dependable students who are taking or have taken water resources and other civil engineering courses. This is a terrific opportunity for a college student to support a number of exciting local and national projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Data processing and management using GIS to support hydrologic and hydraulic modeling

• Internship is with the local Water group, but there may be opportunities to assist in other disciplines in the office such as Geotechnical, Transportation, and Environmental Services

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Experience with the following software applications is desired, but not required: AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcMap/GIS, PCSWMM, HydroCAD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Must have good organizational skills, be reliable, detail orientated, and capable of working independently on assigned tasks
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and take direction

Education and Experience

• Must be currently enrolled in an accredited degree program for Civil, Environmental, or FABE Engineering
• Valid driver’s license required
• Previous internship or co-op experience is a plus

Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
