Job summary

Bohler's Richmond, VA office is seeking a motivated Civil Engineering Intern (Land Development) for Summer 2027. You will gain hands-on experience on real-site design projects from concept to construction, learning the complete development process.

Under mentors, you’ll work with AutoCAD Civil 3D to support residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments, and participate in team meetings to advance projects.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in a relevant bachelor’s or master’s program is required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and within a team, with a proactive attitude.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred; training is provided if not proficient.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day site design activities under supervision.
• Learn land development stages from concept to construction.
• Use AutoCAD Civil 3D to design concept plans, grading, and utilities.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, and project managers to drive projects forward.
• Research zoning ordinances and coordinate with local jurisdictions.
• Visit sites to observe field conditions and participate in design reviews.

About the Role

Bohler's office in Richmond, VA is seeking a motivated Civil Engineering Intern (Land Development) eager to learn, grow, and contribute to real-world site design projects. As a Summer 2027intern, you will gain insight into the daily operations of a civil engineering firm and understand the complete site development process, from concept to construction. By working alongside engineers, designers, and project managers, you will gain hands-on experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, supporting the design and permitting of commercial, residential, industrial, and mixed-use developments.

What You'll Do

• Experience the day-to-day operations of a civil engineering and site design firm
• Learn the stages of the land development and site design process
• Enhance your technical skills with hands-on experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D to design:
  • Concept plans
  • Grading plans
  • Stormwater management plans
  • Utility system plans
  • Soil erosion and sediment control plans
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, and project managers to coordinate and drive projects forward
• Research zoning ordinances and coordinate with local jurisdictions
• Visit sites to observe field conditions and see the engineering process in action
• Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas to design and process improvements
