Job summary

Bohler in Raleigh, NC seeks a motivated Civil Engineering Intern (Land Development) for Summer 2027 to gain hands-on experience in site design and the complete development process. You will work with experienced engineers, designers, and project managers on real-world projects from concept to construction.

There is a strong focus on AutoCAD Civil 3D usage, grading, stormwater, and utility design, with mentorship and growth opportunities in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Civil, Environmental, Biosystems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D (preferred; training provided if not yet proficient).
  • Curiosity and motivation to learn within a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Interest in civil site design, land development, and problem-solving.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with day-to-day operations of a civil engineering and site design firm.
  • Learn stages of the land development and site design process.
  • Enhance technical skills with hands-on experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D to design: concept plans, grading plans, stormwater management plans, utility system plans, erosion and sediment control plans.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and project managers to coordinate and drive projects forward.
  • Research zoning ordinances and coordinate with local jurisdictions.
  • Visit sites to observe field conditions and see the engineering process in action.

About The Role

Bohler’s office in Raleigh, NC is seeking a motivated Civil Engineering Intern (Land Development) eager to learn, grow, and contribute to real-world site design projects. As a Summer 2027 intern, you will gain insight into the daily operations of a civil engineering firm and understand the complete site development process, from concept to construction. By working alongside engineers, designers, and project managers, you will gain hands-on experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, supporting the design and permitting of commercial, residential, industrial, and mixed-use developments.

What You’ll Do
  • Experience the day-to-day operations of a civil engineering and site design firm
  • Learn the stages of the land development and site design process
  • Enhance your technical skills with hands-on experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D to design:
    • Concept plans
    • Grading plans
    • Stormwater management plans
    • Utility system plans
    • Soil erosion and sediment control plans
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and project managers to coordinate and drive projects forward
