Job summary

MacKay is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern to join our Vancouver, WA team for a 10-12 week summer internship in 2027. You will work with experienced engineers on projects across water resources, energy, land development, and municipal infrastructure, gaining hands-on experience while contributing to real projects.

The internship emphasizes learning practical engineering methods, plans review, and cost estimation, with opportunities to stretch skills and grow in a multidisciplinary firm.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in civil/environmental engineering program (BS).
• Excellent written and spoken communication.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Willing to learn new software and tools.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Develop practical experience in resolving engineering problems and applying approved methods.
• Gain foundational experience reviewing plans, site layouts, specs, and construction methods for compliance.
• Gain hands-on experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Meet deadlines and communicate effectively within a team.
• Prepare engineering designs and specifications for assigned project portions.
• Prepare cost estimates with quantities and material/labor costs to assess feasibility.
• Assist in analyzing complex engineering data and technical documents.
