Baird, Hampton & Brown, Inc. seeks a temporary Civil Intern to join this summer. You will learn essential skills from an established team of engineers and gain exposure to diverse project types in both private and public sectors.

Responsibilities include analyzing surveys, designing civil systems, preparing documents for permitting, and communicating project status with managers and clients. ABET-accredited degree enrollment and strong communication are required.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in ABET-accredited Civil or Environmental Engineering degree program.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
• Active pursuit of Civil engineering coursework (12–18 hours) during study.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and interpret survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial data to plan projects.
• Plan and design transportation or hydraulic systems following standards using design software.
• Analyze and produce designs for stormwater, sewer, pipeline, parking, sidewalks, roadway, etc.
• Prepare site grading and utility plans, hydraulic calculations, and construction documents for permitting.
• Compute load and grade requirements, water flow rates, or material stress factors to determine design specs.
• Prepare reports and document project activities and data.
• Communicate project status with the Project Manager, client, and other stakeholders.
• Accompany engineers on site visits to view ongoing company projects.
• Attend client meetings and represent the civil interests of the firm.
