Job summary

Schnabel Engineering seeks a temporary full-time Civil Engineering Intern to support our growing firm in a May–August 2027 internship. The role emphasizes broadening practical knowledge by applying professional principles under supervision of senior engineers.

The position provides exposure to geotechnical design, earth and environment-focused projects, and hands-on field and office work in a collaborative, learning-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering Bachelor's program.
• Possess good oral and written communication skills and computer literacy.
• Ability to work with direction as part of a team.
• Willingness to perform a variety of tasks including office and field work.

Responsibilities

• Assisting in geotechnical investigations and analyses, retaining wall/excavation support design, hydrology and hydraulic studies; and reinforced concrete design.
• Preparing construction plans.
• Supporting advanced earthquake engineering analyses.
• Performing construction observation and materials testing.
• Some travel may be required.

Required Skills/Experience

• Current enrollment in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering Bachelor's. Enrollment in other college engineering or relevant science programs may be considered.
• Possess good oral and written communication skills and computer literacy
• Ability to work with direction as part of a team
• Willingness to perform a variety of tasks including office and field work
• Desire and willingness to work outdoors
• Ability to routinely lift up to 50 pounds

Preferred Skills/Experience

• Master's degree in Civil Engineering
• Junior, senior, and graduate students
• Prior professional work or summer intern work in a related field

• Must possess a valid driver's license as driving is an essential function of the job
• Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check
