Job summary

Bowman is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern for summer 2027 in Fredericksburg, VA. The role provides hands-on exposure to traffic studies, water and sewer design, and construction plans within a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Enrolled in a civil engineering related program or continuing education.
• Preferred focus on civil engineering or related discipline.
• Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Assist with site grading, erosion and sediment control design, CAD drafting.
• Support stormwater, water treatment, and utility design efforts.
• Contribute to traffic analysis and roadway planning tasks.
• Assist with field inspections and construction administration activities.

Education

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent commensurate experience

Enrolled in community college courses, a college degree program, or formal continuing education program

Civil engineering or related discipline focus

Must be at least 18 years old

Must hold a valid state driver's license

Purpose

This position provides an introduction to designing and developing traffic studies, water, storm and sanitary sewer studies, and construction plans, civil engineering site plans, and roadway plans for construction.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

• Perform work under direct supervision of an experienced professional and follow established procedures and clearly defined processes.

At The Operational And Company Level

• Interact with multiple departments and peers within the organization and participate in intern program learning and development opportunities.

Do the Work

• Assist with all aspects of project scope to include site grading, erosion and sediment control design, CAD design and drafting, storm water management design, water treatment, traffic analysis and/or utility design
• Assist with field inspections.
• Observe and participate in construction administration (RFI/Submittal) responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Must hold a valid state driver's license and successfully pass a motor vehicle check.
