Job summary

SMEUSA is seeking a summer Co-op in civil engineering for 2027, starting mid-May with full-time hours through late November/early December. Orientation and on-the-job training will prepare you to work with construction managers, contractors, and design professionals.

You will gain hands-on experience across soils, concrete, asphalt, and materials evaluation. You will work directly with SME Team Members on site, in the field and in engineering support roles, with housing stipend and other

Qualifications

• Basic computer literacy for field work and reporting.
• Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record.
• Must be able to lift and carry equipment up to 50–60 pounds.
• Ability to work outdoors at construction sites in various weather conditions.
• Must be able to sit, stand, stoop and kneel for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Assist field construction quality control activities.
• Gain experience in assessment of soils, concrete, asphalt, and other materials.
• Collaborate with SME Team Members and contractors to ensure project specs.
• Assist SME engineering staff with field evaluations and QC testing.
• Learn from experts in geotechnical engineering, environmental remediation, pavement design, and materials evaluation.
