Job summary

DLZ Corporation is seeking a Civil Engineer specializing in Site Development in Ohio. You will support planning, design, and delivery of public and private site development projects, guiding junior staff and coordinating with project managers and stakeholders.

The role requires a background in grading, drainage, stormwater, utilities, and permitting, with strong communication and mentoring skills. This is an on-site, collaborative position with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • 4+ years of civil engineering experience focused on site development or related infrastructure.
  • Experience preparing site design documents: grading, drainage, utilities, erosion control.
  • Experience with land development projects across various sectors.
  • EIT certification for CE II; PE licensure in Ohio for CE III.
  • Working knowledge of permitting, design standards, and agency review.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D; MS Office; hydrology/hydraulic modeling is a plus.
  • Ability to supervise junior engineers and manage project tasks and budgets.
  • Strong written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to visit construction sites safely.

Responsibilities

  • Perform civil engineering design for site development projects of moderate complexity.
  • Prepare site plans, grading plans, utility plans, stormwater plans, and erosion controls.
  • Perform calculations for grading, drainage, utilities, and site development.
  • Coordinate design activities with PMs, engineers, technicians, surveyors, architects, clients, and agencies.
  • Prepare technical reports, permit applications, cost estimates, and project documentation.
  • Support projects from planning through permitting, bidding, and construction.
  • Review drawings and mentor junior staff.
  • Assist project managers with schedules, budgets, scope, and deliverables.
  • Participate in site visits, field investigations, and construction-phase services.
  • Identify design issues and propose practical solutions.
  • Maintain relationships with internal teams, clients, consultants, contractors, and regulators.
  • Participate in professional and industry activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

DLZ Corporation has an opportunity for a Civil Engineer specializing in Site Development in Ohio. This position will support the planning, design, and delivery of public and private sector site development projects. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced project managers while providing technical guidance and day-to-day coordination for junior engineering staff. Project responsibilities may include site layout, grading, stormwater management, utility design, erosion and sediment control, permitting, and construction support.
Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform civil engineering design assignments for site development projects of moderate complexity.
  • Prepare and review site plans, grading plans, utility plans, stormwater management plans, erosion and sediment control plans, and construction details.
  • Perform engineering calculations and analyses related to grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, and site development.
  • Coordinate design activities with project managers, engineers, technicians, surveyors, architects, clients, reviewing agencies, and other project stakeholders.
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, permit applications, construction cost estimates, and supporting project documentation.
  • Support projects from initial planning and design through permitting, bidding, and construction.
  • Review drawings and technical work prepared by junior engineers and design staff.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less-experienced team members.
  • Assist project managers with project schedules, budgets, scope coordination, quality control, and client deliverables.
  • Participate in site visits, field investigations, and construction-phase services.
  • Identify design issues and recommend practical and constructible solutions.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with internal teams, clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in professional, civic, and industry-related activities.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related engineering discipline required.
  • Four (4) or more years of experience in civil engineering with a focus on site development, land development, or related infrastructure projects.
  • Experience preparing civil site design documents including grading, drainage, stormwater management, utility, and erosion and sediment control plans.
  • Experience supporting commercial, industrial, institutional, residential, municipal, or mixed-use land development projects.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required for CE II level; Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Ohio required for CE III level.
  • Working knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal permitting requirements, engineering design standards, and agency review processes.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office applications; experience with hydrology/hydraulic modeling software is a plus.
  • Experience coordinating project tasks and reviewing the work of junior engineers, designers, or technical staff.
  • Ability to contribute to project schedules, budgets, quality control processes, and client deliverables.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, technical writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites while complying with all applicable safety requirements.
