Job description

This position serves as a Civil Engineer Hydraulic (CEH) within the Planning and Design Section of the Division of Project Development in the Bureau of Waterways Engineering and Wetlands. The employee is involved in engineering work as required for implementing the duties of the program as mandated by “Dam Safety and Encroachments Act” (Act No. 325, 1978), and/or “Flood Plain Management Act” (Act No. 166, 1978) and/or “The Flood Protection Act” (Act of August 7, 1936, P.L. 106) and/or “Stream Improvement Act” (Act of June 5, 1947, P.L.422). The expectations and duties of a Civil Engineer Hydraulic are spelled out below under “Description of Duties”.

If this position is filled as a Civil Engineer Trainee, the incumbent will participate in a one-year formal and on-the-job training program to learn the duties of a Civil Engineer Hydraulic.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary:Most selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $64,861.00(before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Four years of civil engineering experience, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
  • A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, or in a closely related field, which includes or was supplemented by major course work in civil engineering; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes possession of an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Conditions of Employment:
  • This position also requires possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
