Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking a Civil Engineer Trainee to join the Department of Transportation’s Design, Construction or Maintenance divisions. This 12-month training program provides hands-on experience in bridge, transportation, and soils engineering, with duties across field surveys, design tasks, and project preparation.

Full-time schedule, standard hours, optional telework contingent on approved location and company policy.

Qualifications

• Minimum experience: one year civil engineering experience or equivalent.
• Education: bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or closely related field with major civil engineering coursework.
• Educational timing: candidates may meet requirements within ten months of graduating.

Responsibilities

• Survey support for field surveys on highway and bridge projects.
• Assist with bridge designs, safety reviews, and plan preparation.
• Participate in assembling materials for highway and bridge construction.
