The City of Winston-Salem is seeking an experienced Project Field Engineer to plan, design, permit, and oversee solid waste facilities and related projects. You will work under the Solid Waste Operations Manager and coordinate with consultants, contractors, and City staff to ensure regulatory compliance and on-time delivery.
Responsibilities include reviewing designs and cost estimates, managing bid processes, tracking data for budgets, and engaging with property owners on permitting issues.
Performs intermediate advanced technical work planning, designing, permitting, directing, inspecting and maintaining of a variety of solid waste projects, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Solid Waste Operations Manager.
Bachelor's degree with coursework in civil or environmental engineering, or related field and moderate experience working as a civil engineer or in construction management, solid waste or civil construction industry experience is preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of modern civil engineering methods and techniques; through knowledge of land and engineering survey systems, methods and techniques; thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of engineering drafting; possess excellent communication skills; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and position specific software; ability to effectively work with City Officials, employees, contractors, State and Federal Officials and the general public; ability to prepare technical reports. Prefer candidates that have completed course work or direct experience with stormwater and erosion and sediment control design principles.
