Job summary

STV is seeking a Civil Engineer with trackwork experience to join our Transit Group in Maryland. You will manage track and civil design for railway projects, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, provide owners representative support, and help deliver practical, safe and sustainable rail solutions.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in Civil Engineering, a PE license, and 7+ years of railway engineering experience, including design, construction support, and maintenance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required or ability to obtain.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive railway engineering experience (design, construction support, maintenance).
• Experience with rail and civil design tools (MicroStation, InRail, OpenRail, AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
• Familiarity with AREMA, CPUC, AAR, FRA standards.

Job description

STV is seeking a Civil Engineer with trackwork experience to join our Transit Group in one of our Maryland offices. This is a strong opportunity for an experienced track and civil engineering professional to step into a visible technical leadership role on complex transit infrastructure projects throughout Maryland and the surrounding Mid-Atlantic region. You will manage track and civil design efforts, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, provide owners representative support, support clients and project managers, and help deliver practical, safe, and sustainable rail solutions. This role reports to the Transit Lead and works closely with project leadership and design teams.

What You'll Do

• Perform owners representative duties and oversee design efforts to deliver project.
• Partner with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams to define scope, objectives, technical requirements, and delivery strategies for MTA and other rail projects.
• Lead track and civil design for railway track, stations, bridges, tunnels, and related infrastructure using sound engineering judgment and applicable tools.
• Provide technical guidance to meet applicable local, state, national, and industry standards for safety, accessibility, environmental impact, and rail operations.
• Anticipate challenges and develop practical mitigation strategies that support quality, schedule, budget, and constructability goals.
• Support construction by responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings and submittals, and coordinating with contractors and project teams.
• Apply QA/QC procedures to deliver accurate, coordinated, and constructible work products.
• Monitor progress, track project needs, and identify opportunities to improve delivery efficiency.
• Communicate updates, milestones, technical issues, and action items with clients, agencies, contractors, and internal teams.
• Prepare reports, drawings, specifications, calculations, and other technical deliverables aligned with STV and client standards.
• Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices that improve efficiency, resiliency, and sustainability.
• Mentor junior engineers and technical staff while contributing to a collaborative, high-performing team.

What You'll Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive railway engineering experience, including design, construction support, and/or maintenance of rail infrastructure.
• Experience with rail and civil design tools such as MicroStation, InRail, OpenRail, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D.
• Working knowledge of railway standards and regulations, including AREMA, CPUC, AAR, and FRA requirements.
• Strong problem-solving skills and comfort working in a multidisciplinary project environment.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information to clients, stakeholders, and project teams.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, coordinate across teams, and maintain quality while meeting deadlines.

Compensation Range:

$124,726.29 - $142,544.33
