Job summary

The City of Chico is seeking an Associate Engineer to support the Engineering Department in planning, design, and maintenance of public works projects. You will work on capital improvement programs, land development, and traffic projects, coordinating with developers, contractors, and agencies.

This role requires independent judgment, professional engineering experience, and the ability to prepare staff reports and cost analyses. CalPERS benefits and paid holidays are included.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required.
• Three years of increasingly responsible professional civil engineering experience.
• Valid California Driver’s License and CA Civil Engineer Registration required.

Responsibilities

• Performs professional engineering duties in support of capital improvement and land development projects.
• Prepares plans, specifications, cost estimates, and schedules for public works projects.
• Reviews subdivision and improvement plans and related maps for conformance to standards.
• Coordinates environmental review, plan checking, and approval of tentative maps for private development projects.
• Serves as project manager on assigned engineering and construction projects and negotiates change orders.
• Coordinates with utility companies and other agencies on project scope and permits.
