Job summary

GRAEF in Madison, WI is seeking a dynamic Civil Engineer to join our growing office and lead design teams on multi‑discipline projects, with potential to develop into a Practice Team Leader. Required: a Bachelor’s in civil engineering, 8+ years’ site development experience, Wisconsin PE license (other Midwest licenses a plus).

A Master’s in hydraulics/hydrology is a plus; strong client interaction and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
  • Master’s degree with emphasis on hydraulics or hydrology is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Wisconsin; Midwest licenses are a plus.
  • Minimum of 8 years of design experience in site development, grading, drainage, and permitting in Wisconsin.

Responsibilities

  • Project engineering and management including oversight and budgeting.
  • Mentor site civil team members.
  • Lead business development activities and client management.
  • Develop new opportunities by strengthening client relationships.
  • Represent the firm at industry events and professional associations.
  • Participate in professional society involvement.

We have an exciting opportunity available for a dynamic Civil Engineer in our growing Madison, WI office. This opportunity offers exciting project challenges while managing design teams on single and multi-discipline projects. For the right candidate, this position also provides the potential to develop into a Practice Team Leader in the Madison office.
Responsibilities Include

  • Project engineering and management including project oversight, setting priorities, and developing objectives, project financial management as well as hands‑on involvement in the design process.
  • Serving as a technical resource and mentor for site civil team members.
  • Lead and participate in business development activities, including proposal preparation, project interviews/presentations, and client management.
  • Develop new business opportunities by strengthening relationships with existing clients and creating new client connections.
  • Represent the firm at industry events, professional associations, and community activities to enhance visibility and market presence.
  • Professional society involvement.
In order to be considered for this position, candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. Master’s degree with an emphasis on hydraulics, hydrology or a related field of study is a plus.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience of design experience in site development, grading, drainage, storm water management, and permitting in Wisconsin. Candidates with additional experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Abilities to mentor staff and successfully lead a project team is a plus.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multi-discipline and architect-led team on large site projects.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License in Wisconsin. PE licenses in other Midwest states is a plus.
  • Good communication skills and a proven track record in successfully interacting with clients and internal team members is necessary.
