NC Design Solutions is seeking an experienced Civil Design / Project Manager to join our Charlotte, NC office. This position will support a growing portfolio of land development projects located throughout North Carolina.
We are looking for a hands-on civil engineering professional who can take responsibility for projects from initial planning and design through permitting and construction. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical design capabilities with project management skills and will be comfortable coordinating projects across multiple municipalities, counties, and regulatory jurisdictions.
This position provides an opportunity to work on a variety of residential, commercial, industrial, and other site development projects throughout North Carolina.
Responsibilities
Civil Design / Project Manager
Charlotte, North Carolina|Full-Time
- Manage civil/site development projects from initial planning through final approvals and construction.
- Prepare and oversee civil engineering designs, calculations, plans, reports, and permit applications.
- Perform and/or supervise site layout, grading, storm drainage, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, utility, roadway, and infrastructure design.
- Manage projects located in multiple municipalities and counties throughout North Carolina.
- Research and apply applicable local, county, state, and utility design standards and permitting requirements.
- Coordinate project schedules, budgets, deliverables, and internal design resources.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, reviewing agencies, consultants, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Coordinate permitting and approvals with municipalities, counties, NCDOT, NCDEQ, utility providers, and other applicable agencies.
- Review plans and calculations for technical accuracy, constructability, and compliance with applicable standards.
- Mentor and provide technical direction to civil designers and junior engineering staff.
- Assist with preparation of project proposals, scopes of work, fee estimates, and schedules.
- Participate in client meetings, agency meetings, and project coordination calls.
- Assist with construction administration, including responding to RFIs, reviewing field conditions, and resolving design-related issues.
- Maintain organized project documentation and ensure projects meet established quality standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field preferred.
- Approximately 5-15+ years of civil/site development experience preferred.
- Experience with land development projects in North Carolina is preferred.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Strong working knowledge of grading, drainage, stormwater management, erosion control, utility, roadway, and site development design.
- Ability to research and interpret the requirements of different municipalities, counties, utilities, and regulatory agencies.
- Experience navigating local and state permitting and approval processes.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in different locations and jurisdictions simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, reviewing agencies, contractors, consultants, and internal project teams.
- Ability to work independently while also providing leadership and technical direction to a design team.
Preferred Qualifications
- North Carolina Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure.
- Experience managing projects through multiple North Carolina municipalities and counties.
- Experience with residential subdivisions, multifamily, commercial, and/or industrial development.
- Experience preparing project proposals and managing project budgets.
- Experience coordinating with NCDOT, NCDEQ, local municipalities, counties, and utility providers.
- Experience leading and mentoring civil engineering and design staff.
