Job description

A professional civil engineering firm in Northbrook, IL is seeking a motivated licensed Professional Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will provide clients with personal, inclusive, and timely service to foster long-standing business relationships. You will be responsible for designing and coordinating various projects from initial client contact through construction, including feasibility and drainage studies, land development construction documents, obtaining necessary permits, construction observation, and construction layout.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare client contracts and schedules for survey crews
  • Develop construction documents and opinions of construction costs
  • Handle village submittals and reviews, and permit applications
  • Conduct field observations and coordinate construction activities
  • Engage with various agencies including Illinois EPA and Army Corps of Engineers
Qualifications
  • Licensed Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification (PE)
  • 3-5 years of professional civil engineering experience
  • Experience with infrastructure projects including land development, drainage, and roadway management
  • Familiarity with compensatory storage calculations and detention basin sizing (but not required)

  2. Are you a Licensed Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification (PE)?
  3. Do you have 3-5 years of professional civil engineering experience?
  4. Do you have MicroStation and Geopak/Open Roads proficiency (Required)?
  5. Do you have infrastructure project experience (e.g., land development, drainage, grading, sanitary sewer, watermain, roadway, and stormwater management)?
  6. Do you have experience preparing permit applications for Illinois EPA, MWRD, IDOT, FEMA, and the Army Corps of Engineers?
  7. Do you have a strong understanding of stormwater management reports, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, and storm sewer calculations?
  8. Do you have strong verbal and written communication skills?
  9. Do you have the ability to coordinate with vendors and agencies (e.g., contract negotiations, permitting)?
  10. Are you located in Illinois and within driving distance of Northbrook, IL?
  11. Are you comfortable working in a dog-friendly office environment?
  12. Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certification - Nice to Have:
  13. Do you have working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, TR20, and EPASWMM - Nice to Have?
  14. Do you have prior experience with high-net-worth residential projects - Nice to Have?
  15. Do you have familiarity with compensatory storage calculations, detention basin and restrictor sizing - Nice to Have?
  16. Do you have a background in municipal and non-profit projects - Nice to Have?
