Dennis Group Civil Engineers focus on land development and infrastructure for our food and beverage processing facilities. Our civil engineers design building pads, site utilities, drainage, and overall site layouts, collaborating with structure engineers and architects to deliver complete packages.

We are seeking a civil engineer with 4–7 years of industrial construction experience, AutoCAD/Civil 3D proficiency, and an EIT license. Travel up to 15 days/year.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• 4–7 years of civil engineering experience on industrial construction projects.
• 4–7 years of drainage, grading and utility design for industrial or commercial projects.
• 4–7 years of AutoCAD, Civil 3D experience.
• Ability to travel to project sites (approximately 15 days per year).
• License: EIT.

Responsibilities

• Plays a role in design tasks and prepares project documentation, including CAD drawings.
• Assists in bid development, contractor communication, bid tabulation, and preliminary bid evaluation.
• Develops site basis of design documents and parking layouts; edits project specifications.
• Reviews drawings and coordinates the project team; performs construction administration; responds to RFIs.
• Visits project sites to observe field conditions and evaluate design constraints.
• Supports talent growth within the organization and may mentor junior staff.

Job Summary

Dennis Group Civil Engineers focus on the land development and infrastructure for our industrial projects that involve designing and building new food and beverage process facilities. Our civil engineers have strong technical and design ability and excellent communication skills in designing land development plans, building pads, infrastructure for new buildings, landscaping, and everything from the foundation and below. Civil engineers are part of our Building Systems department and work closely with structure engineers and architects/designers. They're also involved with bid evaluation and local contractor initial contact in multiple project locations. The role is highly valuable at Dennis Group and faces engineering challenges that require strong calculation skills and for experienced engineers to have a Professional Engineer License (PE). As a member of our civil team your responsibilities may include but not limited to:

Responsibilities

• Applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks as part of a broader assignment
• Performs moderate design tasks, receives guidance when necessary, on unconventional or complex problems, direction on modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria
• Prepare partial to complete project documentation, including complete CAD drawings
• Performs procurement tasks such as bid list development, contractor initial contact, bid tabulation, and preliminary bid evaluation
• Has understanding of discipline specific plan elements, and how to navigate a set of drawings
• Performs construction administration tasks including complex submittal review
• Respond to RFIs
• Small to Mid-size project primary client technical contract
• Develop site basis of design document
• Edits project specifications
• Develop parking lot layout that satisfies development ordinances and regulations
• Analysis and detailed design of institutional, industrial, and commercial buildings sites
• Review historical site drawings to determine if site objectives align with existing conditions
• Understanding of pavement materials, design of pavement sections, and construction methods
• Determines land use characteristics and assign runoff coefficients
• Calculate times of concentrations
• Pre-development hydrologic analysis for simple sites
• Delineate complex watersheds and determine how to model watershed
• Develop design approach for site factoring in topography, exiting drainage conditions, outfalls, site constraints, etc.
• Detention pond design and outlet control structure to meet pre-development discharge rate
• Design of channel linings
• Advance site grading using Civil 3D
• Trust restraint calculations for pressure systems
• Understanding of BMPs for EPSC
• Prepare storm drainage report
• Preparing engineering calculations and engineering sketches
• Preparing land development plans, site grading, utility and drainage design for planning, permitting and construction for food and beverage processing facilities.
• Reviewing drawings and coordinating the project team
• Preparing bid packages and providing construction administration
• Develop bidder list
• Visiting project sites to observe field conditions
• Evaluating design constraints and resolving problems
• Researching civil engineering materials and best practices
• Supporting talent growth within our organization
• Provide coaching and/or mentoring to a subordinate group when directed by supervisor.

Required Education Skills And Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
• 4-7 years of experience in civil engineer tasks involving industrial construction projects (foundation and below aspects - design land development, building pads, and infrastructure for new builds, etc.)
• 4-7 years of experience in drainage, grading and utility design for industrial or commercial projects.
• 4-7 years of experience in AutoCAD, Civil 3D
• Ability to travel to project sites as needed (15 days a year)
• License: EIT

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift-up to 15 pounds at times.

Travel Requirement

• Up to 25% travel required to visit project site and other offices.
