Pierce County's Surface Water Management team is seeking an experienced engineer to lead internal design teams and manage consultant services for capital projects such as fish passage culverts, floodplain reconnection, and water quality improvements.

Qualifications

• Registration as an Engineer-in-Training is required.
• Seven years of progressively responsible experience related to the position is required.
• A bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited program in civil engineering, or a closely related field, may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis, up to four years.
• A valid driver's license is required.
• A resume and cover letter are required for this position.
• Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Develops, administers, designs, and inspects capital improvement projects, which may include culverts, traffic control devices, storm sewer structures, water quality improvement facilities, or other appurtenances.
• Studies, analyzes, and prepares engineering-related reports as required by state, federal and local authorities.
• Presents findings orally or in writing to county staff, officials, or other agencies.
• Reviews and recommends changes to engineer prepared plans to meet County standards.
• Reviews projects for compliance with Critical Areas regulations and writes project conditions.
• Prepares and reviews comprehensive engineering plans and cost estimates.
• Calculates and verifies pay quantities for proper payment for contracted services.
