The City of Kalamazoo, MI is seeking Civil Engineer I/II/III to supervise capital improvement projects across Water Resources, Wastewater, or Public Works/Traffic. Responsibilities range from design to construction inspections and contract management, with growth to project leadership.
Entry Engineers start under supervision; II/III assume independent roles, manage teams, and ensure regulatory compliance. A PE license is preferred and a valid Michigan driver’s license is required.
is responsible for supervising and managing capital improvement projects, contracts, budget and design in one of three divisions: Water Resources, Wastewater or Public Works/Traffic.
This is the entry level in the professional engineering series. Under supervision, performs technical engineering work; makes technical computations, studies, performs field and office surveys and inspections; writes reports; checks maps and plans; may do computer aided drafting/design.
Under direction, independently performs a variety of technical engineering work involved with public construction projects and public services operations and maintenance, including acting as project manager, resident engineer, assistant resident engineer or inspector on major construction projects; or project leader on a design project; may lead subordinate personnel on a project basis.
Under general direction, may act as project manager, assigned technical engineer, oversee and train junior engineering staff members. The Engineer III is expected to be in responsible charge of their assigned work in developing engineering analysis, designs, reports, plans, specifications, or contracts.
