Position: Civil Engineer - Highways

Reports to: Department Manager – Civil

General Qualities:

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to accomplish assigned tasks independently with guidance from supervisors.
• Capable of developing solutions to problems.

Responsibilities:

• Design of highways, including horizontal and vertical alignment, grading, stormwater management, traffic control, signing and striping, utility relocation, and erosion and sediment control.
• Preparation of calculations, reports, and spreadsheets associated with designs.
• Drafting technical specifications in accordance with DOT and project-specific requirements to support contract documents.
• Quantity calculations and construction cost estimates to support budgeting, bidding, and funding applications.
• Leading design teams to develop detailed construction plans.
• Creating and editing plans using AutoCAD or MicroStation for submission to clients, agencies, and contractors.
• Conducting field investigations, data collection, and infrastructure inventory.

Administrative Responsibilities:

• Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures.

Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Professional Engineer’s License in NY or NJ.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in civil/site or transportation engineering.
• Experience with highway design.
• Familiarity with NYSDOT or NJDOT standards is a plus.
