Job description

The client is an established, growth-oriented construction contractor specializing in earthwork, site infrastructure, and underground utility systems. The company serves a diverse client base across residential, commercial, and heavy civil construction projects.

As the company continues to scale its commercial footprint and infrastructure project volume, it is seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer Estimator to join its team. This key hire will take ownership of digital takeoffs, cost calculations, and bid preparation to ensure accuracy, competitiveness, and profitability across all project types.

This is a remote position.

About the Role

The Civil Engineer Estimator is a high-impact, technical role combining quantity takeoff mastery, cost estimation, and civil plan analysis.

The successful candidate will work closely under the direct supervision of leadership (Alex), with escalation support from senior technical lead (Danny). You will be responsible for converting civil drawings, preliminary plans, and site documents into comprehensive, highly accurate estimates and bid packages.

This role is ideal for a proactive, detail-oriented professional with a strong civil engineering background who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can take increasing long-term ownership of the estimating pipeline.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform precise digital quantity takeoffs and prepare preliminary-to-final cost estimates for residential, commercial, and heavy civil projects.
  • Convert complex engineering drawings, civil plans, and site documents into actionable cost structures and deliverables.
  • Prepare accurate preliminary estimates using Construction Link and construct final bid packages using Beam and related tools.
Earthwork & Site Infrastructure Scope
  • Calculate precise cut/fill volumes, mass grading, land clearing, grubbing, stump removal, and earthmoving requirements.
  • Scope out erosion and sediment control measures, retaining walls, and site preparation costs.
  • Estimate foundations for both residential and commercial structures.
Underground Utilities & Civil Works
  • Estimate underground utility installations including water mains, sanitary sewer, electrical conduit, gas, and stormwater management systems (including utilities under roadways).
  • Calculate requirements for onsite wastewater treatment systems.
  • Estimate heavy civil infrastructure, subdivision utility connections, roadways, walkways, driveways, garages, and curb/gutter flatwork.
Workflow, Communication & Escalation
  • Participate in initial step-by-step onboarding, rapidly transitioning to independent takeoff delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with Alex (primary supervisor) for ongoing workflow management and Danny for complex technical escalations.
  • Identify potential project risks, scope gaps, and cost drivers early in the takeoff process.
Requirements
  • Professional Experience: Proven track record in civil construction estimating. 5+ years of senior civil estimating experience is strongly preferred.
  • Educational Background: Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent practical civil field experience.
  • Civil & Infrastructure Knowledge: Deep familiarity with foundations, cut/fill earthmoving, underground utilities, and heavy civil works.
  • Sector Experience: Strong background in residential construction coupled with commercial and civil project experience.
  • Federal Contract Experience: Prior experience estimating or managing Federal/Government contracts is highly desirable.
  • Language Skills: Advanced written and verbal English communication skills for collaborating with team members and executive leadership.
  • Accountability: Strong independent problem-solving capabilities with high attention to detail and accuracy under bid deadlines.

Standard Productivity Tools: Google Workspace, Slack, Microsoft Teams, and email communications.

Salary: $1,500 – $3,000 USD/month (Up to $4,000 USD/month for senior-level candidates with 5+ years of specialized experience).

Growth Opportunity: Expanding responsibility to take long-term ownership of the company's full estimating pipeline.

Schedule: Full-time (Starting standard: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM CST with flexibility on daily hours).
