Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol, a leading U.S.-based infrastructure advisor, seeks an Entry Level Site-Civil Engineer for its Norfolk office for Winter 2026/Spring 2027. You will support designs, collect data, analyze environmental impacts, and help prepare site development documents across ports, coastal, and waterfront projects.

Ideal candidates hold a civil engineering degree and an Engineer in Training or equivalent, with 0–2 years of related internship experience and proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil3D.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required.
• Engineer in Training certification preferred.
• 0 to 2 years of experience as a civil engineer, preferably with site layout, stormwater, erosion control, utilities, and other infrastructure systems.
• Related internship experience for entry-level candidates is required.
• Proficiency AutoCAD and Civil3D.
• MicroStation and experience in stormwater modeling using WaterCAD or SWMM software is desired.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).
• Availability and willingness to travel.
• Due to client parameters, selected candidate must show proof of U.S. citizenship and pass a background check.
• Post offer background check in compliance with NIST 800-171.
• U.S. employment eligibility and documentation at hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist and support designs and construction projects by studying project concept, architectural drawings, and models.
• Assist the preparation of engineering designs by collecting and studying reports, maps, drawings, aerial photographs, and tests on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and related topographical and geologic data.
• Create feasibility study by analyzing engineering design, conducting environmental impact studies, and assembling data.
• Prepare design documents and reports for civil site development (site layout, grading, drainage, erosion control, utilities, and other infrastructure systems).
• Perform calculations, prepare cost estimates, drawings, technical specifications, and write reports.
• Assist in the production of engineering documents by developing construction specifications, plans, and schedules.
• Perform limited field observations in support of construction and data collection.

Physical Requirements

Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.

Base Salary Range

$36.00 to $43.00 per hour based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting the required qualifications in the job description.

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the Virginia market.
