Job summary

EMH&T, Inc. in Columbus, Ohio is seeking an Engineer Intern to support our Water Resources team on stormwater, floodplain, and watershed projects. You will work with senior engineers to develop designs, analyses, and permitting documents.

The role focuses on planning, computations, mapping, and report writing, using HydroCAD, HEC-RAS, AutoCAD, and GIS, with mentorship to advance toward EI certification.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
  • Up to four years’ work experience.
  • Exposure to modeling software including HydroCAD and HEC-RAS.
  • Pass FE exam and achieve EI certification within one year start of employment.
  • Strong technical report writing ability.
  • Ability to use AutoCAD and GIS platforms to support site design and to augment stormwater and floodplain management studies.
  • Assist with technical writing to prepare engineering documents.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of stormwater management plans, hydraulic and hydrologic calculations, drainage studies, environmental-based studies and flood risk assessments.
  • Provide engineering support for the planning, analysis, and design of stormwater and floodplain management projects associated with private development and public infrastructure improvements.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, exhibits, and permit applications, including hydrologic/hydraulic modeling and FEMA map change applications.
  • Conduct analysis and design of detention and post-construction water quality facilities in accordance with local and state-wide regulatory guidelines.
  • Utilize HydroCAD, HEC-RAS, PCSWMM or similar software for conducting water resources calculations.
  • Use GIS to demonstrate study results and AutoCAD to demonstrate design solutions.
  • Work independently and as part of a collaborative team with other engineering professionals around the company.

Job description

Our Water Resources team has earned a strong reputation for engineering excellence and is consistently at the forefront of many of the public and private sector projects that are shaping the future of Central Ohio and beyond. We partner with public and private clients to solve complex challenges involving stormwater management, watershed planning, flood mitigation, and community resilience.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineer Intern (EI) to join our Water Resources team in Columbus, OH. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers on a variety of stormwater, floodplain, and watershed projects while developing the technical and professional skills necessary for career growth. The Engineer Intern will support the planning, analysis, design, and permitting of water resources projects, including stormwater management systems, drainage improvements, floodplain studies, and flood mitigation projects. Working under the guidance of senior engineers and project managers, the successful candidate will contribute to technical analyses, engineering design, mapping, and project documentation.
