Job description

Latitude 48 Engineers is a growing Seattle-based civil engineering firm focused on site development projects throughout the Puget Sound region. Our work includes multifamily and affordable housing, mixed-use and transit-oriented development, institutional projects, and complex urban infill sites.

We are looking for a Civil Engineer with 2–5 years of experience who wants to continue building strong technical design skills while taking on greater project responsibility. As part of our small team, you will work directly with project managers and principals, contribute to projects from early feasibility through permitting and construction, and have the opportunity to take on increasing ownership as your experience grows.

We are looking for someone who enjoys technical design, but also wants to understand the bigger picture and develop into a well-rounded consulting engineer.

What You'll Do

Prepare and coordinate civil site design for grading, drainage, utilities, frontage improvements, erosion control, and site layout.

Develop Civil 3D models, surfaces, pipe networks, profiles, alignments, corridors, and other design elements needed to support project documentation.

Perform stormwater analysis and assist with the design of detention, conveyance, infiltration, flow-control, and water-quality treatment systems.

Prepare stormwater reports, calculations, technical memoranda, permit applications, and other project documentation.

Research and interpret jurisdictional codes, engineering standards, and permitting requirements.

Support projects from early feasibility and schematic design through permitting, construction documents, and construction administration.

Coordinate with architects, landscape architects, surveyors, geotechnical engineers, contractors, utility providers, and other project consultants.

Participate in client and agency coordination and take on increasing responsibility for project communication as your experience develops.

Review surveys, geotechnical reports, existing plans, RFIs, submittals, and field conditions to help resolve design and construction issues.

Manage individual design tasks and project components across multiple active projects while maintaining quality and schedule commitments.

What We're Looking For

Required:

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.

2–5 years of relevant civil engineering consulting experience, preferably in land development or site development.

Working proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D.

Strong problem-solving and organizational skills with attention to detail.

Clear written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively.

Valid driver's license and ability to perform occasional site visits.

Preferred:

Experience with Washington stormwater design and permitting requirements.

Experience with MGSFlood, WWHM, or comparable hydrologic/hydraulic modeling software.

Experience working with municipal permitting agencies throughout the Puget Sound region.

Experience with multifamily, mixed-use, affordable housing, commercial, or institutional development projects.

Above all, we are looking for someone who is curious, dependable, willing to take initiative, and interested in understanding the "why" behind a design rather than simply completing assigned tasks.

Why Latitude 48?

Real responsibility early. At a small firm, you are not one person buried within a large project team. Our engineers are exposed to the full project lifecycle and are given meaningful responsibility as quickly as they are ready for it.

Direct access to experienced engineers. You will work closely with our project managers and principals on a daily basis, providing opportunities for hands‑on mentorship and exposure to the technical and business sides of consulting.

Grow beyond production work. We want our engineers to become strong technical designers and well‑rounded consultants. As you develop, you will have opportunities to participate in client communication, agency coordination, project planning, construction support, and project management.

Work on interesting local projects. Our team works on complex development projects throughout the Puget Sound region, including multifamily and affordable housing, mixed‑use development, transit‑oriented development, and institutional projects.

Collaborative, centrally located office. Our South Lake Union office provides a convenient, active setting for in‑person collaboration, mentoring, and team interaction, with flexibility for occasional remote work.

A small team where your contribution matters. Every member of our team plays a meaningful role in our success. Good ideas are encouraged, individual contributions are visible, and employees have the opportunity to help shape how the company grows.

Sustainable careers matter. We believe great work and long‑term professional growth are best supported by a collaborative workplace, reasonable expectations, and a healthy balance between work and life.
