Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Civil Engineer to lead the preparation of project documentation for land development and infrastructure projects in Florida. You will collaborate with project personnel on planning, design, and permitting while guiding staff engineers, interns, and other team members.

The role requires a bachelor’s in civil engineering (or foreign equivalent) with several years of related experience, strong AutoCAD/Civil 3D skills, and knowledge of local permitting processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with 3 years of related experience or Master’s with 2 years of related experience.
  • Experience in site and civil design for construction projects.
  • Experience with state and local land use permitting in Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage tasks for preparation and modification of project-level engineering documents.
  • Prepare planning, design, and permitting documents for civil/infrastructure projects.
  • Coordinate with project personnel and staff engineers; supervise interns or staff as needed.
  • Write and review drafts of feasibility studies, reports, and specifications.
  • Perform cost calculations and assess feasibility based on data.
  • Review work products and draft proposals with project personnel.
  • Use engineering data, maps, drawings, and surveys to inform design decisions.
  • Apply sustainability and resiliency best practices to projects.
  • Coordinate field inspections as required.

Job description

  • lead and manage tasks associated with the preparation and modification of various project-level engineering documents including reports, specifications, plans, cost estimates and designs for projects
  • prepare the planning, design and permitting documents of civil engineering, land development and infrastructure projects in close collaboration with Project Personnel using engineering and design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc.) and equipment
  • apply knowledge and techniques of engineering and advanced mathematics
  • collaborate with Project Personnel in coaching and training staff
  • supervise or coordinate the work of staff engineers, interns and others who assist in specific assignments, as needed
  • write and/or review draft reports, including feasibility studies, stormwater management reports, technical specifications, and utility reports
  • perform cost calculations and determines feasibility of projects based on the analysis of collected data
  • review work product prepared by staff
  • prepare draft proposals in collaboration with Project Personnel
  • effectively use software, reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, tests, aerial photographs, and guidelines and manuals to assess soil composition, terrain, hydraulic and hydrological characteristics, and topographical and geologic data to plan and design projects
  • apply knowledge of sustainability and resiliency best practices to projects
  • perform zoning, sustainability and other feasibility assessments for development projects
  • coordinate and perform field inspection services, as needed
Requirements
  • bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Civil Engineering or a closely related field of study plus 3 years of experience in the job offered or a closely related engineering occupation
  • alternatively, a master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Civil Engineering or a closely related field of study plus 2 years of experience in the job
  • 2 years of experience in site and civil design for construction projects
  • site planning, land grading, storm water management, drainage and soil erosion
  • AutoCAD
  • preparing and modifying engineering documents including reports, specification, plans, construction schedules, cost estimates and design plans for projects using engineering and design software
  • using reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, tests and aerial photographs to assess soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and topographical and geologic data and their impact on the design of projects
  • local, Water Management District, and State land use permitting
  • 1 year of experience with state and local land use permitting in Florida
