Job summary

A Water Utility Company in San Jose, CA, is looking for a Civil Engineer to support the Capital Planning Team. The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years of experience in water systems planning and design. Overview

This Full-Time (On-Site) position in San Jose, CA is with a Water Utility/Water Treatment & Distribution Company. Full benefits, PTO, and paid holidays are inclusive to this position.

Base pay range: $125,000.00/yr - $170,000.00/yr

Number of Available Positions: 4

Salary Target: $125K-$170K/YR (Salary is flexible based on the relevant years of professional experience and background related to the position)

Contract Term: 12 Months to Start; the project can span to 3-6 years in total.

Responsibilities and Requirements
  • Requirements: US Citizenship or Green Card Work Authorization Status; Completed Bachelor’s Degree; EIT License (Strongly Preferred); Ability to pass a drug screening & background check; 2+ years of relevant professional experience including working in an engineering capacity with water systems planning, design, construction, cost estimating, water systems modeling & operations, GIS & Hydraulic Modeling, water treatment plants design/operations/maintenance, urban water systems.
  • Responsibilities:
    • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field and/or equivalent relevant experience; Master’s or Ph.D. degree preferred.
    • Two years of experience in water system planning, design, construction, and cost estimating is highly desirable.
    • California Professional Engineer registration is preferred and EIT registration is strongly preferred.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to write clear project justifications, procedures, and detailed instructions.
    • Ability to communicate with others and maintain effective working relationships, using technical and non-technical language.
    • Knowledge of capital project planning and budgeting is preferred.
    • Knowledge of water systems modeling, design, engineering, and operations is preferred.
    • Knowledge of Asset Management principles is preferred.
    • Knowledge of PUC/GRC rules, regulations, and rate case filings is highly preferred.
    • Strong project management skills; knowledge of scheduling, prioritization, and coordination; PMI principles preferred.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks efficiently.
    • Ability to make technical decisions and provide technical assistance when needed.
    • Ability to estimate project costs to develop high-level budgets.
    • Experience with GIS and hydraulic modeling is highly preferred.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
    • Public presentation and speaking skills.
    • Negotiation experience preferred.
    • Experience with utilities cost estimates and basis of estimate is highly preferred.
    • Experience with WQ regulations and water treatment plant design, operation, and maintenance is highly preferred.
    • Experience with electrical equipment used in urban water systems is highly preferred.
