Job summary

VHB is seeking a Civil Engineer to join our Land Development team in Watertown, MA. This role offers hybrid work, hands-on site design experience, and clear paths for growth within a collaborative East Coast network.

Ideal candidates bring 1–3+ years of land development experience, proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and MS Office, and an EIT/FE track or license. Coaching, training, and opportunities to work across disciplines are emphasized.

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering or related degree.
  • 1–3+ years of civil engineering experience (internship, co-op, or full-time) in land development or site design.
  • EIT licensure or FE Exam preferred (or in progress).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with HydroCAD, WaterCAD, WaterGEMS is a plus.
  • Experience developing site plans, construction documents, technical specifications, and engineering reports is highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • Develop site civil engineering plans and specifications for land development projects.
  • Prepare site layouts, grading, drainage, utilities, erosion and sediment control using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Contribute to construction documents and engineering reports with high accuracy.
  • Support stormwater management, utility design, and sustainable site design.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across offices and disciplines on integrated projects.
  • Mentor junior staff on technical standards and best practices.
  • Participate in professional organizations and business development as you grow.

Responsibilities
How You’ll Make an Impact
  • Work within a collaborative team to develop site civil engineering plans and specifications for a wide range of land development projects.
  • Prepare site layouts, grading, drainage, utilities, erosion and sediment control, and related design elements using AutoCAD Civil 3D and other tools.
  • Contribute to construction documents, technical specifications, and engineering reports, with a focus on accuracy and high-quality work.
  • Support stormwater management, utility design, and sustainable site design solutions that improve community resilience.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues in other VHB offices and disciplines—including transportation, environmental, and planning—on integrated project teams.
  • As you gain experience, help train and mentor junior staff on technical standards, tools, and best practices.
  • Participate in professional organizations and business development activities as your interests and experience grow.

Qualifications
  • BS in Civil Engineering or a related degree.

The full-time annual base salary range for this position is $81,000 to $105,000 if located in Watertown, MA. The base salary offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted salary range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.

Annual base salary is one component of VHB’s Total Rewards package. In addition to base pay, eligible employees may receive annual incentive compensation bonuses, spot bonuses, and merit-based salary increases, providing opportunities to increase earnings beyond base pay.
