Job summary

The Town of Lexington Department of Transportation seeks a Civil Engineer to develop, manage and administer civil and municipal engineering projects involving design, construction oversight, and field inspections in Lexington, SC.

The role supports asset management, capital improvement planning, transportation planning and traffic safety, operating with independence under the supervision of the Transportation Director.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil, construction or environmental engineering is required.
• PE license preferred or ability to obtain license within two years.
• Experience with EIT and at least three years of experience encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Prepare engineering plan specifications and contracts, and perform routine engineering work.
• Conduct field inspections of municipal and developer-installed projects for conformance with plans.
• Assist with GIS and survey data collection to support asset data and project coordination.

Job description

The Town of Lexington Department of Transportation seeks a Civil Engineer to develop, manage and administer civil and municipal engineering projects involving design, construction oversight, and field inspections. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of the Transportation Director. This position aids with asset management, capital improvement planning and projects, transportation planning and projects as well as traffic safety.

Major Responsibilities

• Major responsibilities include preparing engineering plan specifications and contracts, performing routine engineering work requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
• Applicant will provide field inspections of municipal improvement projects and developer-installed public improvement projects for conformance with engineering plans and specifications and construction as well as safety standards.
• The chosen applicant will assist with use of GIS and survey equipment to collect public infrastructure asset data, coordinate projects with contractors, citizens, regulatory agencies, and developers as well as assist with the use of traffic data collection equipment to collect traffic volume, speed data and video data.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in civil, construction or environmental engineering required, and a licensed professional engineer is preferred (PE) or the ability to obtain licensing in two years.
• An applicant with an engineering intern license (EIT) and have at least three years of experience is encouraged to apply.
• A valid Class D Driver’s License is essential.
