Job summary

Lamp Rynearson, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer for our Civil Design team in the Kansas City, MO area. You’ll lead design efforts, coordinate with clients, and mentor junior staff on stormwater, transportation, and site projects.

The ideal candidate holds a Civil Engineering degree, a PE license (or ability to obtain in KS/MO within 90 days), and 5+ years of relevant design experience. We offer an employee-owned culture and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; Master’s is a plus.
• PE license in KS or MO or ability to obtain within 90 days.
• 5+ years of design development for civil/site projects (stormwater/transportation).
• Experience with CAD/GIS and hydraulic modeling is preferred.
• Strong communication and client-facing skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and assist projects through planning, design, and construction phases.
• Mentor junior engineers and keep projects on schedule and within budget.
• Create clear design documentation and reports per scope and standards.

What You’ll Do

As part of our experienced water services team, you'll play a key role in planning, designing, and executing impactful public and private capital improvement and civil site projects. Your work will directly support the development of resilient communities and long-term client partnerships. Here’s how you’ll make a difference:

• Lead and assist projects through every phase—from planning to design to construction
• Mentor up-and-coming engineers, while keeping projects on schedule and within budget
• Create clear, high-quality documentation in line with project scope and quality standards
• Dive into technical studies, collaborate with sub-consultants, and contribute your expertise to reports and analyses
• Work directly with clients to understand needs and deliver solutions to building strong, lasting client relationships
• Get involved with local clients and business development opportunities to help grow our impact

What You Bring to the Team

You’re a forward-thinking problem solver with a collaborative spirit and a desire to grow into leadership. Here’s what we’re looking for:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline (Master’s is a plus!)
• PE license in any state (or ability to obtain licensure in KS or MO within 90 days of hire date)
• 5 plus years of proven experience in design development of stormwater, transportation, public and/or private engineering services
• Experience or familiarity with hydraulic modeling, CAD, and/or GIS is a plus.
• Ability to prepare design computations, engineering letters, and technical reports.
• A collaborative spirit and the desire to work with both internal teams and external partners on infrastructure layout.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• Confidence in preparing client presentations, technical memos, detailed reports, and construction contract documents
• A proactive attitude and a passion for participating in a dynamic, employee‑owned culture
• Interest in professional societies and community involvement. Active involvement preferred.
