Job summary

What you’ll do

• Develop and review civil plans, drawings, and specifications for residential and commercial development projects
• Lead site development design, including grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, and erosion control
• Evaluate site feasibility and identify design improvements, cost efficiencies, and constructability solutions
• Lead permitting, zoning coordination, and municipal approvals, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal requirements
• Coordinate with architects, consultants, surveyors, contractors, and government agencies throughout project development
• Review consultant engineering plans and construction documents on behalf of the owner
• Visit sites to assess existing conditions, construction progress, and design challenges
• Work with project managers and superintendents to resolve field conditions and engineering issues
• Prepare technical reports, calculations, and project documentation
• Manage engineering deliverables to keep project schedules on track
• What you bring
• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related discipline
• [5+] years of land development or site civil engineering experience
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred (Tennessee, or able to obtain Tennessee licensure by comity)
• Proven experience with grading, drainage, utilities, and stormwater design
• Experience taking projects through permitting and municipal approvals
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar design software
• Ability to interpret construction plans, specifications, and technical documents
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Clear written and verbal communication, and the ability to collaborate in a fast-paced environment
• Preferred
• Experience with residential, commercial, or mixed-use development
• Familiarity with Chattanooga-area permitting and municipal approval processes
• Construction field experience or direct work with contractors
• Understanding of project budgets, schedules, and construction coordination
