Independence Excavating, Inc. is offering a Spring 2027 Co-op/Internship in Sterling, VA for civil engineering and construction management students. Interns will learn estimating, scheduling, and on-site coordination through multiple functions including PM assistance, surveying, and materials takeoffs.

Participants should be enrolled in a 2- or 4-year program, commit to 40+ hours/week during terms away from school, and be open to travel to multiple office locations nationwide.

Qualifications

• College students enrolled in a 2- or 4-year civil engineering, construction management, or related field.
• Internships preferred to last at least 2 terms (non-consecutive acceptable).
• Interns are expected to work 40+ hours per week during terms away from school.
• A degree of travel is required for the internship.
• Co-op opportunities at our Sterling, VA office and other locations across the country.

Responsibilities

• Assist in project management and bid preparation.
• Prepare RFIs, submittals, payment requisitions, change order requests.
• Perform quantity takeoffs (materials, subs, and self-performed work).
• Solicit quotes from suppliers and subcontractors; assist in evaluating job costs.
• Assist in developing and maintaining critical path project schedules.
• Assist in surveying and coordination with field teams using AutoCAD and GPS.
