Job summary

W3Global is seeking an experienced Civil Designer to join our engineering team in Wisconsin. This role requires a minimum of five years of civil engineering/design experience and strong proficiency in MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer (ORD).

You will support rail and civil infrastructure projects, collaborate with engineers, contractors, and construction personnel, and develop plans, grading surfaces, and drainage design, producing plan/profiles and cost estimates.

Qualifications

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Civil Designer with a minimum of 5 years of civil engineering/design experience to join a growing engineering and design team.

The Civil Designer will support the design and development of rail and civil infrastructure projects, working with engineers, designers, contractors, and construction personnel. The position requires strong proficiency in MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer (ORD), along with experience in civil design, grading, drainage, survey data, and plan production.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

• Work with a multidisciplinary team in the design and analysis of rail and civil engineering projects.
• Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and construction personnel on design/build projects.
• Manage individual design workstreams and multiple projects at various stages of development.
• Prepare aerial concept drawings and 2D design plans using MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
• Produce plan/profile sheets, notes, callouts, cross sections, and other engineering drawings.
• Use OpenRoads Designer to develop roadway/railbed models, templates, cross sections, and grading surfaces.
• Develop rail alignments using survey and topographic data.
• Import and utilize raw survey data for design development.
• Perform grading and drainage design, including basic hydrologic and hydraulic calculations.
• Determine drainage areas, runoff coefficients, pipe types, and basic drainage sizing requirements.
• Create and update engineering drawings and digital maps using survey data.
• Prepare plan revisions and modifications for regulatory and agency submittals.
• Prepare plans, specifications, quantity takeoffs, and construction cost estimates.
• Support development of opinions of probable construction cost (OPCCs).
• Coordinate design activities, schedules, and project deliverables.
• Perform quality-control self-checks to ensure drawings and design documents are complete and accurate.
• Participate in peer review and quality-control processes for designs, plans, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates.
• Assist with estimating engineering effort for proposals and new projects.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in civil engineering/design.
• Strong proficiency with OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
• Experience with MicroStation.
• Ability to import and work with survey/topographic data.
