Job summary

Tetra Tech, Inc. in Ann Arbor, MI is seeking an experienced Civil Construction Inspector / Assistant Construction Manager to support on-site inspections for municipal infrastructure projects and to assist in project administration to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.

The role focuses on field oversight, coordination with contractors and clients, and thorough documentation through daily reports and testing of materials.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in municipal or public infrastructure construction.
• Some experience with site civil construction, including yard piping, structural concrete, mechanical systems, HVAC, electrical, and instrumentation.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Experience using Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel and basic office equipment.
• Ability to work extended or irregular hours as project needs require.
• Strong interest in building a career in construction contract administration and inspection consulting.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Observe and document daily construction activities and ensure adherence to plans and specs.
• Maintain accurate project documentation including daily reports, photos, test reports, and drawings.
• Track quantities and assist in preparing deficiency or punch lists.
• Act as Construction Manager representative on project progress and field issues.
• Communicate with contractors to review progress and address concerns.
• Coordinate with clients and contractors and keep clients informed of activities.
• Coordinate with third-party materials testing firms for soils, concrete, etc.
• Promote site safety and report safety concerns.
• Develop Work Change Directives, Field Orders, and Change Orders.
• Perform construction administration tasks, including meeting agendas/minutes and supervising field staff.
