Job summary

Tetra Tech in Ann Arbor, MI is seeking a Civil Construction Inspector/Assistant Construction Manager to provide on-site inspection and documentation for municipal infrastructure projects and coordinate with contractors and clients to ensure conformance with plans and specs.

The role supports field oversight, safety promotion, and project administration, including daily reporting, coordination with testing firms, and preparation of change orders. Travel to local sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of municipal/public infrastructure construction experience.
• Experience with site civil construction including yard piping, structural concrete, mechanical systems, HVAC, electrical, and instrumentation.
• Valid driver's license and good driving record.
• Proficient with MS Word and MS Excel.
• Willing to work extended or irregular hours.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Interest in construction contract administration and inspection consulting.

Responsibilities

• Observe and document daily construction activities and ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and contract documents.
• Maintain project documentation (daily reports, project photos, test reports, and construction record drawings).
• Track construction quantities and assist in preparing deficiency or punch lists.
• Act as Construction Manager representative regarding project progress and field issues.
• Communicate regularly with contractors to review progress and address field-related concerns.
• Coordinate with clients and contractors to keep them informed of activities impacting operations.
• Coordinate with third-party materials testing firms for soils, concrete, bituminous materials, bearing tests.
• Promote and monitor site safety practices and report safety concerns.
• Develop Work Change Directives, Field Orders, Proposal Requests, and Change Orders.
• Assist with construction administration tasks, including meeting agendas/minutes for conferences and progress meetings, and occasional supervision of field staff.
