Job summary

HDR, Inc. is seeking a Civil Construction Inspector to document observations as projects progress, monitor and inspect site work, and coordinate field testing on civil infrastructure projects in a team-focused environment.

The role requires careful documentation, independent work capability, and adherence to HDR’s safety and quality standards. Local CT candidates preferred; preemployment drug screening may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; 8 years relevant construction inspection experience may substitute.
• Minimum 3 years experience in civil, highway or engineering field with field inspection experience.
• Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• HDR's preemployment drug test policy applies; preemployment drug screen may be required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and document observations of construction as it progresses for civil projects.
• Monitor, record and inspect progress on construction projects.
• Coordinate field materials sampling and testing (concrete slump, air testing, test cylinders).
• Receive general supervision from the Senior Inspector and perform duties as needed.
• Maintain field and office records and support project teams.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and document observations of construction as it progresses for civil projects related to civil infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, water/wastewater facilities, pump stations and pipelines
• Monitor, record and inspect progress on construction projects
• Coordinate field materials sampling and testing, including concrete slump and air testing, casting concrete test cylinders, and performing in-place soil compaction testing
• Receive general supervision from the Senior Inspector who reviews work while in progress
• Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Technical school or Associate degree
• Some demonstrated experience in construction inspection
• Ability to interpret construction schedules
• Not less than 3 years employment in civil, highway or appropriate engineering field of which at least one year shall be in field inspection activities. Considerable knowledge of construction materials, methods and procedures, ability to maintain field and office records; ability to perform complex quantity and engineering computations; ability to read and interpret plans and specs; ability to deal effectively with people.
• NICET Level II Certification Transportation/Highway Construction is preferred, except for those persons possessing a current PE license registered in CT or a BS in a relevant field.
• Local candidates preferred

Required Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent. (Candidates with 8 years of relevant construction inspection experience may substitute experience for a high school diploma)
• A minimum of 3 years experience
• Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook)
• Proven problem-solving and documentation abilities
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
