Job Title: Civil Construction Estimator
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Civil Construction Estimator to prepare accurate cost estimates for various civil construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of site development, grading, underground utilities, paving, and other heavy civil scopes. Your role will be crucial in helping the company secure projects through competitive, comprehensive, and well-documented estimates.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documents to prepare accurate and competitive estimates.
- Perform quantity take-offs for civil scopes such as earthwork, utilities, paving, grading, and demolition.
- Solicit and evaluate quotes from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and scope coverage.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate scoping and risk identification.
- Prepare bid proposals, budgets, and detailed cost breakdowns in accordance with company standards.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and walkthroughs to assess conditions and potential risks.
- Maintain historical cost data and develop unit cost databases for future use.
- Assist with value engineering, schedule development, and alternative construction methods during preconstruction.
- Track and analyze bid performance, identifying areas for improvement.
- Stay current with market trends, labor rates, and material pricing.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
- 3–5+ years of experience in estimating for civil construction projects.
- Strong understanding of civil construction processes, means, and methods.
- Proficient with estimating software (e.g., Heavy Bid, HCSS, B2W, AgTek, or similar).
- Skilled in reading and interpreting civil plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple estimates concurrently.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience estimating public works and private site development projects.
- Familiarity with local agency standards and permitting processes.
- Knowledge of GPS modeling software or construction technology tools is a plus.
