Your Role as Preconstruction Estimator
As a Preconstruction Estimator for our offices in Indianapolis, IN or Terre Haute, IN, you will prepare cost estimates and budgets for construction projects and collaborate with the Preconstruction team on Multifamily projects or services to assist management in bidding or pricing.
Key Responsibilities
- Client & Vendor Collaboration: Consult with clients, vendors, and personnel from other departments, as well as construction foremen, to develop estimates/budgets and resolve issues.
- Estimating & Budgeting: Analyze blueprints and documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates/budgets.
- Vendor & Subcontractor Selection: Prepare, analyze, and recommend vendors or subcontractors for project selection.
- Stakeholder Communication: Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
- Project Planning & Scheduling: Prepare estimates/budgets used by management for planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
- Cost Analysis: Assess the cost-effectiveness of products, projects, or services while tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
- Site Evaluation: Visit project sites to assess access, drainage, topography, and availability of essential services such as water and electricity.
- Regulatory Compliance: Consult with local authorities to ensure estimates/budgets are complete and accurate, complying with local rules and regulations.
- Staff Development: Provide training and guidance to staff to help them achieve career advancement.
Our Ideal Candidate
- Degree in Construction Management or a related field required
- Four or more years of relevant experience preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Problem-solving ability and capacity to manage multiple tasks; willingness to travel as needed
