Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field.
  • Seven to ten years of venue management experience.
  • Certifications such as IAVM CFE preferred.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

  • Manages capital projects related to the Civic Center Complex.
  • Represents the complex in professional associations.
  • Researches and implement best practices in all phases of the operation of the Civic Center.
  • Assists with grant administration.
  • Guides and manages the overall use and direction of the Civic Center Complex.
  • Maintains professional relationships with City staff, elected officials and the Convention Visitors Council.
  • Negotiates rental agreements and long term contracts with lessees and primary use tenants.
  • Builds and maintains strategic partnerships with stakeholders.
  • Markets the complex locally, regionally and nationally.
  • Solicits events for the complex through negotiated rental deals, promotional efforts and building/sustaining relationships with agents and promoters.
  • Coordinates and administers assistance to clients and event staff.
  • Oversees the administration of building funds and projects.
  • Supervises use of Civic Center Complex.
  • Accepts, receives and collects payments and oversees all cash handling procedures for the department.
  • Manages all financial services including budget preparation, allocation and settlements of events.
  • Develops long range plans for the department and works with promoters on potential upcoming events.
  • Oversees inventory and property management for the department.
  • Oversees the creation of the departmental budget, makes recommendations related to the budget and manages the budget within the department.
  • Directs work of permanent and part-time staff.
  • Oversees, trains and supervises safety, emergency procedures, and crowd control.
  • Collects and maintains statistical information regarding the use of the Civic Center Complex.
  • Hires, evaluates, and participates in the disciplining of employees, as needed.
  • Oversees all training and training programs for employees.
  • Oversees the use of temporary labor and contract personnel.
  • Supervises adherence to established policies, rental rates, City and Fire Codes, state and local laws.
  • Provides quality customer service to lessees, patrons and guests.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

PAY: $100,000 - $130,000 annually (DOQ)

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the overall use and direction of the Civic Center Complex including staffing, finance, administration, operations, ticketing, marketing and capital projects. Duties include building and maintaining cooperative professional relationships with City staff, elected officials and the Convention and Visitors Council; building and maintaining strategic partnerships with stakeholders; negotiating rental agreements and long term contracts with lessees and primary use tenants; marketing the complex locally, regionally and nationally; representing the complex through membership and participation in professional associations; and soliciting events for the complex through negotiated rental deals, promotional efforts and building/sustaining relationships with agents and promoters.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Understanding and knowledge of accounting and management principles.
  • Must have excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer applications.
  • Must have considerable knowledge of the methods and practices of staging events.
  • Must have the ability to plan, delegate, organize and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to operate computers for data entry and word processing.
  • Ability to use highly technical computer applications such as ProVenue – ticketing; Momentus – booking; Workday – accounting/financial; Euna - budget and capital; and MS Office, and to learn new software as necessary.
  • Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
  • Ability to create plans for and guide implementation of new technology systems.
  • Ability to create and guide implementation of capital improvement plans or programs.
  • Ability to work long hours, split shifts, nights weekends and holidays is required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or a related field and a minimum of seven to ten years of venue management experience. International Association of Venue Managers Certified Facility Executive (CFE) preferred. Valid Texas Driver’s License required.
