Job summary

The City of Durham, NC invites applications for a senior financial leadership role in the Finance Department. You will supervise professional and paraprofessional staff while guiding accounting, treasury, payroll and accounts payable functions to ensure fiscal integrity.

Responsibilities include budgeting, financial analysis, and regulatory compliance, plus oversight of investments, debt management, and revenue activities, aligned with city goals and policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or a related field.
• Six years of professional accounting/financial experience.
• Two years of supervisory experience.
• Master’s degree or professional designation preferred.
• CPA/CMA/CLGFO designation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversees daily operations for the Treasury and General Billing & Collections; supervises staff.
• Plans and coordinates preparation of policy, financial reports, contracts, plans and agendas.
• Prepares and manages budgets; monitors expenditures and allocates resources.
• Oversees procurement processes; negotiates purchases and vendor relations.
• Coordinates with City leadership, auditors and departments; supports audits.
• Manages investment portfolio, cash flow and debt portfolio; ensures disclosures.
