Job summary

The City of Haven is seeking a reliable, detail-driven individual to serve as City Treasurer. This part-time appointed role provides independent financial oversight and ensures accurate accounting of all City funds.

Position highlights include part-time status under 40 hours per week (generally one day a month), annual appointment by the Mayor with Council approval, and reporting to the Mayor and City Council.

Qualifications

• Public sector or municipal accounting exposure preferred.
• Bondable and able to take the oath of office.
• Proficient in Excel.
• Experience handling city funds and financial records is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Verify and maintain accurate records of all City receipts and disbursements.
• Maintain separate accounts for each City fund.
• Serve as a check and balance to City Clerk bookkeeping.
• Compare checks, deposits, and transaction lists; make corrections.
• Sign City checks and verify deposit slips.

• Verify and maintain accurate records of all City receipts and disbursements “Treasurer shall verify in suitable books the full and accurate account of all monies received / disbursed by the City…”
• Maintain separate accounts for each City fund
• Serve as a check?and?balance to City Clerk bookkeeping
• Compare checks, deposits, and transaction lists; make corrections
• Sign City checks and verify deposit slips
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Post?secondary business or accounting coursework preferred
• Experience in public agency or similar financial roles preferred
• Must be bondable and able to take the oath of office
• Must be proficient in Excel
