The City of Columbia SC is seeking a licensed attorney to manage the criminal docket in Municipal court and assist with legal matters for the City. The role requires independent judgment and professional oversight, with strong research and writing capabilities.

Responsibilities include case preparation, subpoenas handling, legal opinions, and liaison with the public and officials. This is a full-time, on-site legal position in Columbia, SC, with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

Juris Doctorate required; no experience required.
Licensed to practice law in South Carolina and in good standing with the SC Bar.
Valid South Carolina Class D Driver's License.

Responsibilities

Manages the criminal docket in Municipal court.
Prepares cases and represents or assists with representation of the City in legal matters.
Reviews and responds to subpoenas.
Reviews and prepares legal documents, real estate documents, etc.
Performs research.
Prepares legal opinions and offers legal advice.
Recommends action on complaints and claims by or against the City.
Manages civil and administrative caseloads.
Attends meetings, training, conferences, seminars, etc., as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills.
