The City of Craig is seeking a City Planner / Planning Director to lead planning, zoning, land use, permits, and related municipal functions. This role interprets the Craig Municipal Code and applicable state and federal regulations to guide development and policy decisions.

The City Planner / Planning Director is responsible for the administration and coordination of the City of Craig's planning, zoning, land use, development review, platting, permitting, code administration and enforcement, economic development, grant administration, emergency planning, and related municipal functions.
The Planning Director serves as the primary professional resource for planning and land use matters and is responsible for interpreting and applying the Craig Municipal Code, applicable state and federal statutes and regulations, adopted plans, development standards, and other applicable requirements.
The Planning Director independently reviews and processes land use and development applications; prepares staff reports, findings, recommendations, resolutions, ordinances, notices, maps, and other documents; administers Planning Commission proceedings; provides professional planning support to the City Council, City Administrator, City departments, boards, and commissions; and serves as a liaison between the City, applicants, property owners, agencies, consultants, and the public.
The position requires substantial independent judgment, research, analysis, communication, project coordination, and knowledge of municipal government and land use administration.
A bachelor’s degree in planning, rural development, public administration or related field is preferred. Bachelor’s degree may be substituted with five (5) years of progressively responsible experience working in local government with an emphasis on planning, code interpretation/enforcement, land use management, grant management, and project management.
